Germany has also introduced a new immigration act, allowing international students from outside the European Union to work up to 20 hours per week, doubling the previous limit of 10 hours. This rule applies not only to enrolled university students but also to those seeking educational programs and undergoing German language training. These measures aim to create a smoother pathway for Indian students into the German labor market and further strengthen the ties between India and Germany in the field of education.
The Federal Statistical Office of Germany reports a 26% increase in the number of Indian students in Germany, reaching a total of 42,997 for the winter semester of 2022-2023. Engineering is the most popular field of study among Indian students, followed by law, management, social studies, mathematics, and natural sciences.
